The LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-gender & questioning) Youth Centre would like to invite you to our Open House event. This Centre, the only one of its kind on the West Island, is devoted to meeting the needs and addressing the concerns and issues of youth who identify as lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, trans-gendered or questioning/queer.  The Centre accomplishes this goal through: regular drop-in evenings which occasionally include guest speakers; workshops addressing homophobia and bullying in the schools and community. We also reach out to local (West Island) schools in order to help them maintain their GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) or initiate one. GSAs are important not only for the LGBTQ youth and their heterosexual cohorts that participate, but it also encourages peer learning. Another important service we offer to local schools is a homophobia workshop tailored towards students and teachers/staff alike.

The Open House is an informal event geared to showcase the centre, its virtues and services to teachers, principals, guidance counsellors, and professionals in the health care sector. We will encourage participants to share ideas and experiences regarding GSAs and other issues concerning LGBTQ youth in our community.
