Welcome and Happy Birthday!

Welcome to the first (official) entry in the LGBTQ Youth Centre’s blog. My name is Shaun and I would love to have your help in making this blog as fun and informative as possible! There are no limits in where we can go: From advice on daily issues, updates on current events (at the LGBTQ Youth Centre naturally) to opinions on current events affecting LGBTQ all over the world.

If you have any comments, ideas or stories to tell – pass it along to [email protected]. I cannot promise everything will be posted or get a response (when it comes to the blog) but every email or comment sent will be appreciated!

Let’s get started!

This past week the LGBTQ Youth Centre turned 2 years old! On May 15th 2011 our doors sprang open with great fanfare and pride! We have grown so much over the last 24 months not only in youth attendance and in staff/volunteers but also in our outreach attempts. We had our first GSA gala last month and as I am writing this our own Jessica is in Toronto giving a presentation at the 1st annual national GSA meeting! This is all exciting stuff and not only will it bring more attention to our cause, it will help bring happiness, acceptance, safety and community to the LGBTQ youth that are out there and need us or programs like us.

This brings me to the importance that we continue this growth and make sure that the LGBTQ Youth Centre stays open for many years to come. In order for this to happen we are always welcoming new avenues of funding and donations. That is why we are having a special gala and dinner in October to help raise funds. More details to come; however if you (or your parents) want to come or know anyone who would like to come and help our cause, please come back and check our events section for all the details – and then please pass it on.

I would like to end this blog entry with an inspirational quote from Russian author Leo Tolstoy (book title: Anna Karenina):

I think… if it is true that there are as many minds as there are heads, then there are as many kinds of love as there are hearts.
